The tenth annual Ballet Ambassadors "Nutcracker" season is underway in schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, South Huntington LI, Bay Shore LI, and Brentwood LI. On Thursday, December 9th, media attended our performance at the Haven Academy Charter School in the Bronx.
The New York Foundling Home, one of the City’s oldest and largest child welfare agencies, developed the school to address the obstacles to educational achievement that plague children growing up in poor, underserved, urban communities and particularly those in the child welfare system. The school enrolls one third children in foster care, one third children with families receiving preventive services and one third children from the general Mott Haven community, the poorest Congressional district in the country. All 175 of the students, K to Grade 3, shared the stage with our professional dancers in a touching and unforgettable production.
