H.T. Chen & Dancers present the NY premiere of "South of Gold Mountain," a fascinating and extensively researched choreographic tribute to the thousands of Chinese immigrants who emigrated to the U.S., many in southern states, hoping to find the "Gold Mountain." Co-choreographers are H.T. Chen and Dian Dong, who created the major dance/theater work after three years of extensive research with immigrants and their descendants in the states of Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama. Set to a contemporary sound score along with traditional Chinese music and deep south blues created by Bessie Award winner James Lo, this unique work is an enlightening story of immigration, civil rights, and assimilation.
