Hello! My name is Katy Sheehan but my students call me Ms Katy. I work full time in advertising sales mostly so I can afford to teach dance part-time because that is my true passion. I sincerely enjoy working with dance students and sharing my love for dance and performing arts with them. I hope I'm able to be as much of a positive role model for them as my dance teacher was for me!
I've been dancing for over 20 years in multiple disciplines including jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, musical theatre and gymnastics. While at Dance Plus+ Studio in Edinburgh, Indiana, I participated in numerous local, state and national dance competitions including the Indiana State Dance Competition, Applause and Show Stoppers and won many awards for both choreography and group and solo performances. At Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar, Indiana, I cheered and started a competitive dance team that I captained for two years.
While earning a B.A. in Telecommunications and a minor in Business at Indiana University, I was a member of the IU Pom Squad in 1999 and 2000, competing in the UDA National Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida. I also continued taking dance classes and choreographing for summer workshops at local dance studios.
After getting married my husband and I relocated to Cincinnati, OH. I sorely missed dancing so I found a local studio that offered high quality adult classes. After participating in the adult dance programs at Mason Dance Center in Mason, OH for three years I was asked to start teaching and choreographing for the competitive dance company. I've been teaching and choreographing for 5 years and have had several award winning solo, duo/trio, small group and large group competition routines. I also continue to take classes and participate in workshops whenever I can.
My Favorite _______ is _________.
My favorite styles to teach are jazz and tap but I love ALL styles of dance and can teach just about anything.
I hope to
be a positive role model for young dancers and influence them positively as they mature into young adults.
