About DanceArt

DanceArt.com was created in 1996 as a way to share dance themed clipart -- way back when dance fans had very little reason to get excited about the Internet.  Visitors wanted much more so we soon began featuring articles and interviews about dance.  We created more clipart and began selling it as a way to help fund the site and we added features to encourage the creation of a community that offers dancers peer support, idea exchanges, a social outlet and a business resource.  Free dance email accounts, dance chat, and over 60 dance message boards will keep you informed and engaged.

A Family Friendly Site
DanceArt.com recognizes that kids comprise a very important component of the dance and ballet world. This, our primary web site, will be structured in content, tone, and editorial so that it might be enjoyed by and be appropriate for even our youngest visitors.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments about this policy or the content at this web site, please send an email message to us: artadmin@danceart.com

Privacy Pact

Rest assured that DanceArt.com is interested in protecting your privacy. Any information that you share with us such as your email address, mailing address, and so on will never be sold or given to any other company or individual.  The only exception to this policy is our schools mailing list, which is business and not personal data.

Some of the features on our web site, like our message boards, give you the opportunity to reach out to other members of the dance community. Post personal and contact information on our web site only with the understanding that you are making this information public and that DanceArt.com is not liable for any third-party misuse of this information.

Children under 13 may not post email addresses or disclose any personal information to either DanceArt.com or the public by leaving this data in common areas (chat, message boards, guest books).  Our message boards are designed to hide email addresses from all non-member visitors and is designed to refuse to store email addresses and screen names of people under 13.

A parent may grant a child permission to register with the site by paying a one-time membership fee for that child.  Such data will be protected, not disclosed to anyone that is unable to view their account info online, and can be deleted on request by writing to artadmin@danceart.com. The system does not store public profiles and will only display an email address for registered members if they configure their account to do so.

Our website does offer an email newsletter that provides information on the web site and dance field. Children are permitted to sign up for this newsletter without a parent's permission as the only data collected, the email address, is used for the sole purpose of providing the requested information. The free subscription can be terminated at any time.

Our website uses cookies, created by the WebTrends software we run, to count the number of visitors and the number of pages we display. We don't use cookies to track your movements or to collect and store information about you.

Your browser absolutely must be configured to automatically accept cookies if you hope to use our message board area called 'ShoutOut!' A single and temporary memory cookie is created each time you visit so that the message board program can function without logging you out with each page you view.

When you create or reply to a message on our message boards, your IP address and the DanceArt.com / WebTrends cookie's serial number is recorded in the message header.  This information is used when we must do a mass deletion of spam and to protect our visitors from conversational trolls, security & safety threats, and to deny access to the site when visitor behavior warrants it.

If you are uncomfortable with our use of cookies, which is required for our software to function and to help us maintain a safe and healthy environment for our welcomed guests, then your only recourse is to avoid our message board feature entirely.

Answers, Answers, Answers

1. How do I get the artwork down to my computer?

A: Actually if you browse our web site the artwork is automatically pulled down to your Internet browser's cache directory. The artwork inherits a strange file name so it can be difficult to find. Here is how to store the art permanently in the directory of your choice:

a) Go to the page that displays the art you want.

b) Position your mouse pointer over the artwork and click on the right mouse button.

c) Read the menu that appears. You will find an entry like "Save image as..." or something like "Save shoes.gif". Select this menu item.

d) You should then be prompted for a directory for your new file. You can also change the filename if necessary.

2. What about FTP?

A: For security reasons our new web server does not support FTP transfers from our images directory.

3. Can I use the art on my web site?

A: You probably can use our Free Artwork on your pages! Please read the sections below. To acknowledge the source as DanceArt.com and link back to use the buttons found here. If you use the artwork on a web project, we'd love to hear about it or see an example! The artwork that we sell has a license agreement that covers its use. Please read the appropriate agreement and contact us if you have questions.

Using the Free Artwork on the Web or other Computer Network / Service
With restrictions, the Free Artwork can be used on web sites as decorative elements. While you may decorate your web site with the Artwork, visitors to your web site are not free to download and reuse the Artwork.  You agree to not include the Artwork in any web based collection of clipart with the intention of providing it for downloading by visitors to your web site and  you agree to not use the artwork on any web site that competes with DanceArt.com's artwork creation, artwork publishing, web site design, web site hosting, or ezine / portal business activities. You must identify our Artwork and Copyright on your web site in one of two ways:

1) Place the statement "Copyright © DanceArt.com. All Rights Reserved" on one or two lines directly below each Artwork used on the web site. The statement should be easily readable and the entire statement should be linked to http://www.danceart.com/rights.htm. When possible link the Artwork to http://www.danceart.com.

2) Alternatively, develop a paragraph that reads: "The following images on this site are Copyright © DanceArt.com:" and link the "Copyright © DanceArt.com" portion to http://www.danceart.com/rights.htm. Following this statement list each Artwork by its filename, approximate location (by URL if appropriate) within your web site, and a short description. Place this paragraph in a conspicuous location within your web site that a majority of your visitors will see. When possible link the Artwork to http://www.danceart.com.

Corporate users of the Artwork outside of the dance studio / school arena must obtain permission in writing from DanceArt.com before any use of the Artwork occurs.

Other Uses of the Artwork
You are free to use the Free Artwork in your personal projects only if the Artwork is not sold and is not featured on a product that is sold. You may not sell the Artwork or include it as components of a larger collection that is offered for sale or otherwise published. You must contact us and request permission and licensing information if you wish to use the Artwork on products for fundraising efforts or commercial products. Direct inquiries to
sales@danceart.com, and include all details in your request. Be sure to tell us the exact filenames of the Artwork you are interested in.

4. Cookie Headaches?

The Microsoft servers and software we use for our Galleries and ShoutOut! MessageBoard and Chat require that you and your browser accept the cookies from our web site to function.

If you don't accept every cookie that appears on our web site these functions will not work correctly. You'll never be able to zoom in on our artwork in the Gallery and won't be allowed into ShoutOut! without accepting cookies. This is not a privacy issue -- we don't collect data, we don't track your movements, we don't know who you are. The cookies help the server determine which artwork and which data to send to you. If you don't accept cookies, don't write and tell us that something is wrong -- it is out of our hands.

When you visit our site, select 'OK' or 'ACCEPT' on all the cookie messages that appears for each feature (ShoutOut! and the Galleries). You should only get one cookie for each feature, unless you are connected for a long time in which case you might get other cookies to make sure you are still connected. You'll get lots of cookies only if you refuse one or something is wrong.

Both Netscape and Microsoft IE browsers come configured to automatically accept cookies. This configuration is the best if you don't want to be bothered with the cookie messages. If you need to enable cookies follow these instructions:

Netscape 3.0: Select the Options Menu, and then Network Preferences. Click the "Protocols" Tab. Now, clear the check box for "accepting a cookie." Hit OK to close the box.

Netscape 4.0 Communicator: Select the Edit Menu, then Preferences. Click the "Advanced" Category on the left white panel. Turn ON "Enable JavaScript" and either "Accept all cookies" or "Accept only cookies that get set back to the originating server." Turn OFF "Warn me before accepting a cookie." Then hit OK on the Preferences box.

Internet Explorer 3.0: Select the View Menu, then Options. Select the "Advanced" tab and turn OFF the "Warn before accepting cookies" item. Hit OK to close the box.

AOL 3.0 for Win 95: Select the Members Menu, then Preferences. Select the WWW button. Then on the new window that appears, select the "Advanced" tab and turn OFF the "Warn before accepting cookies" item. Hit OK to close the box. Close the other windows.

Internet Explorer 4.0 Preview: Select the View Menu, then Options. Scroll down to "Security" and look for the "Cookies" section under "Security." Turn on "Always Accept Cookies." Some versions of this browser will not work in ShoutOut! yet, and will always give you a cookie error. Hit OK to close the box.
